Waltham Forest was the first ever London Borough of Culture and I was so pleased to show my project Trousseau on home turf as part of the E17 Art Trail 2019
I was born and grew up in Walthamstow and Trousseau traces my maternal line through the local streets, looking at the lives of my women ancestors – a remarkably resilient bunch of laundresses and char women. New pieces were added especially for the show.
Thanks to brilliant textile artist, Lynda McDonald, who hosted my work at her home on Howard Road. It then transferred to Vestry House Museum where I had completed so much of my research.
